Casa Caledonia (4-6 people) : Comfort, Character & Charm – 12km to Sea, BBQ, Garden,  Balcony

Situated  at the upper edge of Lecchiore-Dolcedo, the cobbled pathway of Via IV Novembre leads up to  Casa Caledonia – a large mansion house with original loggia and three-hundred year old cellars.

In 2006 we went to Liguria on holiday, fell in love with Casa Caledonia – and bought it – even though it was a ruin.  We have worked on the building every year since then. The lower apartment – which we lived in for a few years while we were renovating the upper floor – is now rented as a splendid holiday home.

The apartment, covered terrace and private gardens combine modern comforts with old world charm for the perfect holiday retreat.

Covered Tettoia

The property is tastefully decorated and well-equipped for a family or group of 4-6 people. With matching crockery, comfortable mattresses and large walk-in shower, it was designed as a home as opposed to simply a holiday-let.

The balcony – and gardens with BBQ – overlook a stunning valley and church bell-tower that chimes every hour.  There is a large, covered dining area: ideal when it is very hot.  At night you can sit with a glass of wine watching the fireflies and listening to the toads.

The stunningly beautiful village of Dolcedo has a charming historical centre with picturesque bridge built by Maltese knights in the 13th century.  Dolcedo has several shops, restaurants,  a bank and a pharmacie.   Two Sundays a month there is a market where you can browse for bric-a-brac.

In 1923, Oneglia was joined with Porto Maurizio to become the Commune of Imperia.  There are many fish restaurants under the porticos as seen in the distance. These are popular with tourists and locals alike so it is best to arrive early or make reservations. There is also a large car park nearby which is always very busy.
